Google has now expanded AI Mode to desktop users globally after initially bringing it to mobile users in the US, India, the UK, and eventually expanding it to over 120 countries late last year. Google officially confirmed the news, stating, “Starting to roll out on desktop today, you’ll see AI Mode appear as a dedicated tab on your main Search results page across all supported regions.”
This seems like this launch is not a Search Labs launch. Meaning, you should just see it in the main search tabs when you query from your desktop computer. You should not have to opt into it through the Labs icon, and you should be able to access it natively right on the desktop search interface, just like you would on your mobile Google app.

This is the next major surface area Google has launched AI Mode in. First, it was the mobile apps, then the mobile web, and now the big screen. I wonder what is next for AI Mode—maybe even deeper integration directly into the Chrome address bar?
This desktop rollout brings the much-talked-about “query fan-out” technique and Gemini 3 Pro reasoning capabilities straight to your browser. Instead of tapping on your phone, desktop users can now ask complex, multi-layered questions, use follow-up queries like a chatbot, and let Google do the heavy lifting of breaking the query into subtopics. It’s basically a complete shift from a traditional search engine with ten blue links to an “answer engine” that compiles a comprehensive response using multiple sources behind the scenes.
One user on Reddit noted earlier today, “Google is quietly testing AI Mode on desktop this could completely change search.” Yes, we know, zero-click searches are probably going to go up. The organic results might even be hidden behind a “see more” button, just like we saw with the shopping results getting the Direct Offers ads recently.
As reported earlier this week, we are also seeing extreme Google Search ranking volatility. It is highly likely that this desktop rollout of AI Mode is contributing to the massive, heated fluctuations we are seeing across all the major rank tracking tools.
